Bespoke Storage for Awkward Spaces

Alcoves can be large or small, deep or shallow, but they are usually an awkward space created by a chimney breast or quirky cottage layout. Older houses often have little nooks and crannies under the stairs, or in converted lofts and attics can end up as unused space filled with clutter. Triangular gaps, walls that are wonky and ceilings that are at an angle can all make it difficult to fully utilize a room.

Alcove storage can be located in any room but is most common in living rooms and bedrooms. Under-the-stairs storage has also become a popular way of utilizing an awkward alcove by creating spoke pull-out cupboards and drawers made to fit.

Wardrobes can be placed in alcoves when space is tight and you need to maximise storage without taking up valuable floor space. In a living room they could house a media unit, bookcase or a cupboard for hiding toys and clutter.

The interior alcove fittings can also vary between empty cupboard space, shelves, racks and rails so your storage solution is exactly what you need.

Alcove storage is often traditional in design and can be painted a feature colour, or more often, painted the wall colour so it blends in and makes the room feel more spacious.

Alcove cabinets or shelves can be a cost effective way of gaining extra space in a room where ready-made furniture just doesn’t fit. Badly fitting cabinets can have the opposite effect: making a space look awkward and cluttered.

Alcove storage also adds character and can work with a fireplace to create a strong focal point for a living area. Filling in uneven alcoves either side of a fireplace is a brilliant way to create extra storage and also making a feature of the room.
