Frome Interiors FAQ

Here are some common questions about commissioning bespoke furniture & kitchens

These are the questions that we find clients ask us the most but if you don’t see your question listed below then please don’t hesitate to get in touch, you can find our contact form here

Will you come to my house to discuss my project?

We are very happy to come to your house to discuss your ideas. Nothing beats face to face communication and the best place to discuss your home is in your home! We offer our first design visit for free if you live within 45 minutes of Frome. Just get in touch and let us know what you are looking for.

Will I get drawings of my project?

We always produce high quality 3D drawings before we agree any final design or quote with our clients. We want you to know what your furniture or room is going to look like. We will provide dimensions and details so that you are confident in what you are getting, before you pay us any money.

Where do you make your furniture?

All our furniture is designed and handmade by us from our workshop just outside of Frome. We will sometimes use other local craftspeople if there is something we need to outsource but we would let you know this during the design process.

Where do you buy your materials?

We buy our timber and sheet material from local suppliers within a 45 minute drive of Frome. Our ironmongery and other hardware we order online from trusted suppliers. The majority of our materials are from Europe as we no longer produce enough timber in the UK. It is possible to buy some items like brass ironmongery from British manufacturers but this does come with an increase in price.

Is the timber you use sustainably sourced?

We always make sure that we use timber that is FSC or PEFC certified. If you would like more information please get in touch. It is sometimes possible to use UK grown timber but this will depend on the project and what is available at the time.

What paint do you use?

We recommend a few paint suppliers that we have tested and used for many years. These include the Little Green Paint Company and Mylands as we believe they provide a fantastic, long lasting finish. Both companies manufacture their paint in the UK and it is environmentally friendly, it is also child safe. The range of colours is endless and we have large colour wheels for you to get an idea of what you would like. You can visit a local supplier or go on their websites to see their full range.

We are happy to explore other paint options or colour match other paint brands. Just get in touch to discuss your requirements.

Do you design kitchens as well as making them?

Yes! We offer a full kitchen design service including 3D drawings, samples and mood boards. Charlotte is an interior designer with a wealth of experience in helping clients create their perfect room. You can see some of our designs here.

How much does bespoke furniture cost?

The cost of bespoke furniture can vary hugely but we have put together a cost guide here. The guide aims to show you some example projects and what they would cost to help you budget. The final cost of your project will depend on the finishes you choose, the materials we use and the design. If you give us an idea of what you want to spend upfront then we can work with you to design something that is affordable for you.

How much should I budget for a painted shaker kitchen?

Our kitchens will start from around £25,000 including worktops and appliances. We have more information on our pricing page about how we work out the cost of a handmade kitchen as it can depend on many factors. We always recommend you work out a clear budget before you start a project so that we can offer the best advice from the start. The sky is the limit when it comes to kitchens so you want to be sure you are making the right choices for you!

How long will it take for my project to be completed?

We work on around a 12 week lead time for all of our projects. Sometimes our lead times are quicker but we always try to make sure they are never longer than 12 weeks. If this changes we will let you know when we provide you with a quote. Once you have paid a deposit we will then schedule in your project and give you an installation date. If this changes (due to illness or other unavoidable circumstances) then we will let you know as soon as possible. We ask that you do the same for us as well. We know that projects need some degree of flexibility, especially if there are other trades involved or you are having major building work done, but the more notice we have, the more prepared we can be.

How long will it take you to install my bespoke furniture?

This varies hugely depending on the project. When we provide you with a quote we will give you an estimate of the number of days it will take us to install the furniture. A kitchen could be a week or more depending on the size and complexity. A wardrobe could be two or three days.

Do I need to do anything before you arrive?

We will need the room we are working on to be clear of furniture unless agreed beforehand with David. This is especially important when we are installing wardrobes as they are large items of furniture which require room to be assembled. If we are supplying and installing a new kitchen we will expect the old kitchen to be removed and the first fix plumbing and electrics to have been completed. If you need help with preparing your room then please let us know.

Can you help me find builders or other trades people?

Yes we can help you find trusted local trades people to help you complete your project. We know a range of other trades that we are happy to recommend or we suggest using a service such as MyBuilder which allows you to see reviews and to find trades people who are available when you need them.

Can you project manage my new kitchen?

We can offer a project management service where we will take care of everything from the initial concept design to all the finishings and fittings. We will find the relevant trades people required for the project and ensure that it all runs as smoothly as possible. We find that this can end up saving you money and time, it also removes much of the stress that any building project can bring. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss this further.

Do you just do kitchens?

No! We specialise in all fitted furniture including bespoke wardrobes, media units, alcove storage, bookcases, home offices, toy storage, linen cupboards and bathrooms. We can also make complementary free-standing furniture such as dining tables, benches, vanity units, coffee tables, bedside tables etc.

How does payment work?

On a project of less than £10,000 we would normally ask for a 50% deposit when you place the order and 50% on completion of the project. On larger projects and the majority of kitchens, we will ask for 50% when you place the order, 25% prior to installation and the final 25% on completion. We issue invoices which can be paid via bank transfer. If you would like to use an alternative method of payment then please get in touch.

Are you VAT registered?

We are VAT registered and will always make sure the price on your quote includes VAT. If you are undertaking a renovation project that is eligible for a lower rate of VAT please get in touch to discuss that further.

Can I supply my own ironmongery, taps, sinks and other fittings?

Yes this is fine. We understand there are a huge range of fixtures and fittings available and you may wish to purchase these yourself. We just ask that you let us know and if we need them to be sent to our workshop during the manufacturing process that you organise this in plenty of time.
