Classic Shaker Kitchen with a Bold Green and White Colour Palette

This beautiful bright kitchen is our classic shaker kitchen style, perfectly paired with contemporary white surfaces and natural oak.

Ground Floor Renovation

This kitchen was part of a larger project to open up the ground floor of a period property. The client chose our classic Shaker-style kitchen, made from English Ash.

This space is a half basement – essentially it is half submerged underground – so light was limited. By adding windows in the adjoining open-plan dining space and choosing a warm off-white paint colour throughout, it was been transformed from dark to welcoming. It just goes to show how choosing the right colours and layout can make a huge difference to the perceived light in a space.

A wonderful feature of this classic Shaker kitchen is the glass patio doors that allow even more light in, and extend the inside to an outside space during warmer summer months.

The layout is simple but effective and the storage was planned in detail to ensure that the space worked efficiently. The variety of lighting also adds warmth on darker days or for evening entertaining.

We included an island in this classic Shaker kitchen which included an additional eating space/breakast bar. The choice of high chairs gave an additional layer of texture with the leather imprinted with a diamond-pattern, plus more burnished brass legs and frame tying it nicely into the rest of the kitchen decor.

We set the classic Belfast ceramic sink into the middle of the island to make washing up a sociable task, and provide a water source to the main cooking area.

To offset the fantastic colour, burnished brass handles are set against a beautiful rich green, with crisp white surfaces. We used small tiles with a slight texture, positioned vertically to add a contrasting surface and colour and to soften what would otherwise be a large white wall.

Bespoke kitchen cabinets maximise storage in every corner. The fridge freezer has been integrated into a tall cabinet to create a seamless look to the cabinets.

The dark period kitchen has been transformed into a light and welcoming space which works for modern family life. The colours and materials enhance the link to the garden beyond.

Charlotte worked closely with the client to make sure that all of the storage elements worked for the family. We always find out how a space is going to be used to ensure that every need has been designed into the kitchen.

The limited ceiling height in the room meant that wall cupboards were not the best choice.

A simple oak shelf finishes the tiled splashback and includes an LED light to add warmth and task lighting to the space.  The textured white tiles reflect the light from the windows and the LED back into the space.

The extractor hood is hidden in a simple housing which was painted the same colour as the wall to reduce its impact on the space.

The rich green paint colour highlights the beautiful texture of the Ash doors, frames and drawer fronts. The extra wide pan drawers next to the range oven create an abundance of storage for pans, crockery and utensils.

There are also clever cupboards for rubbish and recycling, spices and bottles and worktop appliances. The generous Belfast sink with its antique brass tap, includes a boiling water system for instant cups of tea.

This is a perfect example of how you can have a classic Shaker kitchen, but also give it verve and panache with pops of vibrant colour and clever use of textiles.
